Abstract
Allergy skin test has been used widely in Korea. But the prevalence of positivity, parucularly to house dust related allergens, is much higher than we expected.
For getting information about the skin reactivity to these allergens in Korean community population, we observed 1,317 persons aged between 6 and 70 years. House dust(HD), Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Dp), Dermatophagoides farinae(Df),
histamine
and
normal saline were included in skin prick test. Questionnare included the Past history of diet in early infancy and of allergic disease.
Among the all subjects, 37.1% has skin test reactivity (wheal size larger than 3mm in diameter; 1¡Æ)to any one of the above three antigens, 17.5% has wheal larger than 5mm(2¡Æ), and 23.1% has larger wheal ;than that of histamine (R¡Æ).
Df is the most common antigen among three house dust related allergens which produced the sin reaction. Individual skin reactivity (R¡Æ) are as follows; Df was 17.0%, HD 14.6%, and Dp 15.5%.
The prevalence of over whole skin reactivity (R¡Æ) is already 25.6% in the age group of 6-8 years, and it is reached the highest rate (26.5%) at the age of 15-17 years. Thereafter, the prevalence is decreasing slowly, and from the fifties, it is
decreased rapidly to 4.9%. The past history of wheezing has a definite influence for the skin reactivity in pediatric age group, and male has higher prevalence of skin test positivity than female has.
